Travis Boehm
At Aurelius Psychology, I am dedicated to providing compassionate, personalised, and evidence-based support. With experience in grief counseling and assisting individuals in transitioning out of high-demand religions or organizations, I understand the complexities of these experiences. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where you can navigate your journey toward healing, empowerment, and personal freedom.
My Mission: To empower individuals through compassionate and effective psychological care, fostering resilience, growth, and well-being.
My Vision: To be a beacon of hope and support, transforming lives through innovative and personalized mental health services.
As a Registered Psychologist, Travis Boehm brings a rich and diverse background to his practice. With years of experience in senior finance roles across various industries, he followed his passion for psychology, earning a Graduate Diploma of Science (Psychology) from the University of Western Australia and a Graduate Diploma in Psychology Advanced (Honours) from Monash University. Committed to ongoing learning, he is currently studying his Masters in Neuroscience at the University of New England. Travis combines his broad life experience with a deep understanding of human behavior to provide compassionate and effective support to his clients.
Travis is fully registered as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). He is also a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
Travis takes a warm, active, and collaborative approach to therapy, integrating evidence-based treatments to support his clients in overcoming their challenges. His practice is rooted in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Rational-Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing. In addition, he incorporates Clinical Hypnosis and Mindfulness to help with specific phobias and utilizes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to assist in processing trauma. By tailoring his approach to each individual, Travis creates a supportive and effective therapeutic experience.
Travis has extensive experience supporting individuals struggling with suicidal ideation across all stages of life, with a particular focus on adolescents. His work spans both one-on-one support and educational programs, helping young people navigate these complex challenges with care and understanding.
Having spent over 30 years as a senior member of a high-demand religious organisation before undergoing his own journey of deconstruction, Travis deeply understands the profound impact such transitions have on identity, relationships, and community. He brings both professional expertise and personal insight to supporting those navigating these life-changing experiences.
In May 2024, Travis experienced the devastating loss of his eldest daughter following a grueling 17-month battle with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer. She was 28 years old. Through this heartbreaking journey, he has gained firsthand understanding of the intense emotional rollercoaster of grief and loss. His experience allows him to offer genuine, compassionate support to those facing their own struggles with grief and suffering.
Beyond his professional work, Travis has a deep love for cycling and can often be found riding the hills around Newcastle. He has competed in numerous cycling events, completed three Ironman Triathlons, several marathons, and countless shorter triathlons. He also has a soft spot for dogs—especially Dalmatians, who hold a special place in his heart.
