Clinical Hypnosis - what it’s all about

Clinical hypnosis is a therapeutic technique where a trained professional deliberately induces a relaxed, focused state of mind (trance) in a client to then use verbal suggestions to encourage positive changes in thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. It is aiming to address various mental and physical health conditions like anxiety, pain, or bad habits and is often used as an adjunct to other therapies. Essentially, it's about harnessing a heightened state of suggestibility to promote healing and personal change.

Key points about clinical hypnosis:

  • Trance state:

The core element is inducing a relaxed, focused state of mind where the patient is more receptive to suggestions.

  • Therapeutic suggestions:

The therapist uses carefully crafted verbal suggestions to guide the client towards desired changes in thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

  • Used for various conditions:

Clinical hypnosis can be applied to manage issues like anxiety, depression, pain, phobias, smoking cessation, insomnia, and more.

  • Not just stage hypnosis:

Unlike stage hypnosis, clinical hypnosis is focused on therapeutic goals and is conducted by a trained professional.
